THANKSGIVING MONDAY CHECKLIST

We have provided you a checklist for throwing a successful Thanksgiving dinner party. There was make-ahead stuff on what you can do when you’re three and two weeks away. However, Thanksgiving week is here. It’s the Monday before Thanksgiving. What can you do?

  1. PLAN THE MENU

Since you have ordered your turkey a few weeks back, you must have thought of a way on how you want to serve it to your guests. It could be roasted, fried or stuffed, up to you. Now is the time to list down what other ingredients you will be needing for cooking the turkey and the rest of the other dishes you want to serve on that day.

  1. GROCERY

Now that you know exactly what you need, get that list and head to the grocery. Last minute shopping rarely produces a successful dinner party. Now is the perfect time to buy all items on your grocery list including all beverages.

  1. GET CLEANING!

Welcoming guests simply means inviting them to take a peek into your home. Better make a good impression and start cleaning up. Get those sheets laundered and make room for possible sleepovers. Planning a party isn’t easy so if you have a lot of things on your plate, you can delegate the cleaning to another member of the family.

  1. DEFROST

The smart thing to do was buy or order your turkey weeks ahead. So if you already have your turkey sitting in the freezer, you need to clear a space in the fridge to transfer the bird there for thawing.

SIMPLE WAYS TO HONOR VETERANS DAY

There are lots of ways to honor the significance and importance of the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. One of the best ways to give tribute to those who served, our fallen heroes as well as the surviving ones, is to remember.

Here are ways to do that:

  1. VETERANS HOSPITAL

Plan a visit at a Veterans Hospital or a local VA office. Organize a simple day with the elderly or injured vets. A simple hour just talking to them will bring so much joy. What more when you arrange an outreach?

  1. TEACH THE KIDS ABOUT THE HOLIDAY

Arrange for a handful of middle schoolers to join the outreach. This event will teach these kids about the significance of this day. Have them buddy up with a vet or assign a group of 3 kids to one vet as an ice breaker. This serves as the getting to know you part of the program.

  1. STORY TELLING

Once everyone is comfortable and had gotten to know each other, sit them all down and get a couple of vets to share stories about their experiences during the time they served the country.

  1. THANK YOU MESSAGE

Prepare a thank you message for all these heroes and have it delivered by one of the kids. Or have each of them prepare a simple speech about what they took away from this experience and what they have learned from our veterans.

  1. FEAST

A great way to end the day is to share a delicious feast. Bring a few dishes to the place as a way of saying thank you for their service and for sharing this day with all of you.

Happy Veterans Day!

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS

Halloween is getting more and more popular that it could easily be the kids’ number one holiday. Could it be the ‘new’ Christmas? Trick or treating is what makes it exciting but it can also be a night that can transform into a scary event when parents of trick or treaters aren’t mindful. Check out some trick or treat safety tips before venturing out into the night.

We have recently sent a reminder with all the vital safety tips you can do before accompanying your kids to a night of trick or treating. You can view the infographic here.

  1. BUDDY SYSTEM

Some kids get quite embarrassed when their parents tag along when they go around the neighborhood for some ghoulish fun. Remind them that they need to have a guardian until they are 12 years old. However, when they are old enough to go trick or treating with friends without you, instill in them the significance of the buddy system especially when they are going around the village in a big group. Knowing that they are hanging around with a group of friends puts the parents’ mind at ease. Inform them that none of them should be left alone. When one brave soul gets dared to explore a scary house, a buddy must agree to go with him/her.

  1. TRACKER APP

After you’ve reminded them countless times about texting you their whereabouts or why they haven’t arrived home at the agreed hour, an app to track where they are will be your best friend.

There are lots of free apps you can download on your children’s phones. This will allow you to monitor them and see where they are currently located from their device to your own phone.

  1. KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

Educate your kids about what an offender is. Once they’ve mapped out their route, have them show you their route and double check if there is anybody in the area that has been registered as an offender. It is important that they veer away from that house. See to it that the houses they go knocking on to are homes of people you know and trust.

These are some helpful tips to use on Halloween. When you know you’ve carried out these safety rules properly, then everybody can have a grand time!

ADULT HALLOWEEN DECOR IDEAS

Sometimes the problem with Halloween décor is that it can look too cluttered. That is because other people simply opt to just hang and display all kinds of terrifying creatures all over the house. However, there’s a more organized way of doing that. Here are some adult Halloween décor ideas that can make your place look Halloween perfect with a touch of class.

1.       THEME

Source https://hubpages.com/holidays/Thirteen-Unique-Halloween-Party-Ideas

Choose a theme but avoid one that calls for cutesy Halloween display or even cheap paper décor. Most adult-themed Halloween furnishings would include candelabra, dripping candles, something you would see out of a curiosity cabinet or even black crows.

If you’re not into the scary vibe, use gourds or any fall harvest and display them out front.

2.       COLOR SCHEME

If you want your home to look as if it will be featured in a magazine, forget the usual orange and black colors. Use all black or add some metallic touches if you want to glam up your Halloween. Purple has also been a popular Halloween color too – whatever works for your theme. Just keep in mind to style the place as simple and as monochromatic as you can. That will definitely make it look picture perfect.

3.       HALLOWEEN NOOK

Pick a spook-nook. This will definitely address the problem of Halloween clutter. Whether it’s at your front porch, above the mantel or some corner used as your Halloween scene setter, then let the décor be contained at that area.

This is also an inexpensive way to spruce the place up.

4.       VINTAGE

Scary clowns or bloody wall is so passé.

Use antique non-Halloween items and place it on a vintage display table. Add a tattered runner which will give the whole display a creepy vibe. Toss some skulls and pumpkins in with the mix for good measure.
